Avogadro's Law (Gases)

Avogadro's Law

Equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of particles.

\( V \propto n \)

Volume Ratios in Reactions

Because volume ∝ moles (for gases), the coefficients in a balanced equation also give the volume ratio.

\( 2H_2(g) + O_2(g) \rightarrow 2H_2O(g) \)

2 volumes of H₂ react with 1 volume of O₂.
