The Mole Concept

Just as a dozen means 12, a mole is a specific number of particles.

Avogadro's Constant
\( 6.02 \times 10^{23} \)
particles per mole

The Dozen Analogy

1 dozen eggs = 12 eggs.

1 mole of atoms = 6.02 × 10²³ atoms.

The mole is a counting unit. It lets chemists "count" atoms by weighing them.

The Mole Triangle

m n M ×
m = mass (g)
n = moles (mol)
M = molar mass (g mol⁻¹)

How big is a Mole?

If you had a mole of table tennis balls, they would cover the Earth to a depth of about 300 km.
